If Apple Releases A High Spec GPU Mac, Oculus Rift Will Support It

A virtual reality device, Oculus Rift, will not come to Mac except if Apple releases a very good spec of Mac, as it’s said by Oculus VR founder, Palmer Luckey when he was interviewed by Shcknews. He added that a Mac Pro with a high spec and the price of $6,000, still cannot meet the recommended spec for Oculus Rift headset. A six minutes video shows the excitement of the founder when he explains the future of VR headset. On the 4th minute, a question related to Oculus and Mac appears.

“That is up to Apple and if they ever release a good computer we will do it. It just boils down to the fact that Apple doesn’t prioritize high-end GPUs. You can a buy a $6,000 Mac Pro with the top of the line AMD FirePro D700s and it still doesn’t match our recommended spec. If they prioritize higher-end GPUs like they used to for a while back in the day I think we’d love to support Mac.

Right now there’s just not a single machine out there that supports it. So, even if we can support it on the software side there’s just no audience of people that can run the vast majority of software out there.”

As it was reported by Financial Times, Apple has built a secret team to work on an augmented reality and virtual reality. The previous news mentioned that a top researcher in the field of virtual reality and augmented reality Doug Bowman has been hired by Apple. The Apple’s secret team will work to create and develop a device prototype, which will become a rival for the other virtual reality and the holographic computing devices.
