How to enable dark mode on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is one of the most common social chat platforms for most people around the globe. Recently, many OEMs are enabling dark mode on their gadgets for various reasons like reducing eye strain at night, battery saving, etc. This pushes app developers on multiple platforms to make their applications support dark mode.

Many apps like Messenger, Google Chrome, YouTube, Twitter, etc., have already brought this update to enable dark mode on it, and WhatsApp is a little late to the party. But anyway, after months of testing, dark mode on WhatsApp is finally available on Android and iOS devices. In this article, we’ll show how to enable dark mode on WhatsApp, but first, we will explain what it is.

What are you getting from it?

If the dark mode is already present and enabled on iOS 13 or Android 10, then the WhatsApp dark theme will apply automatically. On Android devices, dark mode looks slightly greyish, and on iOS devices, dark mode is entirely black.

Facebook, the company that owns WhatsApp, has added dark mode to help users lower the brightness of a phone display. A WhatsApp media spokesperson said the company didn’t opt to combine pure black and white colors as this combination causes high eye fatigue. Instead, they used an off-white color and a special dark grey background that reduces the brightness of the phone’s display brings down the glare and enhances contrast.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to use it. Also, WhatsApp dark mode is not compatible with iOS versions older than iOS 13 but is compatible with Android 9 users.
