Why do my drivers need to roll back?

You will for sure run into a problem when one of your drivers is simply not working properly or it has just stopped working. In order to fix that issue, you are going to have to roll back to the previous version of the driver that was causing you problems.

How to do it?

  • Click on the Windows button that is located on the bottom left corner of your computer’s screen.
  • Search for the Device Manager settings and open them. (you can also open the Device Manager using Control Panel if that is easier to you, or just use the keyboard shortcut by pressing the Windows key and the letter X at the exact same time).
  • Click on the Device Manager to expand it. And you will have to find the device that is making this problem to you and which driver you want to roll back. If you are not sure which device is making the problem, there is a chance that you will have the yellow triangle with the exclamation point right next to that device’s name. That sign is the indicator that that device is having some problems.
  • When you locate and find that device, click on it so you can get the Properties window opened.
  • The new window with multiple different tabs is going to open up. Search for the Driver tab, it is usually the first tab on that window and click on it so you could access the new settings there.
  • Among many different options, you will need to find the Roll Back Driver one. If you cannot click on that button, then there isn’t any previous driver available for that device and you cannot get back to it.
  • When you click on that option you are going to be asked to confirm that you really want to go back to the previous version of the driver. Confirm that statement by clicking on Yes. And if you maybe get some additional questions like why do you want to roll back that driver, select the reason and proceed.
  • When the rollback is completed, and it should be now, the Roll Back Driver button should not be available to you and it should be completely disabled.
  • Your PC is going to send you a notification that will say that your hardware settings have been changed and that you need to restart your computer. If you do not want to restart it now, simply select the time when you want to, or restart it later manually. Have in mind that some drivers will not require the restart of your computer, but some will.
  • If you checked that you want to restart your computer right now the process is going to start automatically. After that, you will be able to use your PC regularly, and hopefully, you won’t have any additional problems with the drivers.

Note: Please remember that you will not be able to roll back the printer’s drivers. You are only able to manage drivers that are directly connected to your Device Manager. Also, do not forget that Windows 10 has automatically driver updates. If you wish to turn that off, you will have to go to settings. But after that, your drivers are going to be updated manually until you turn the “automatically” option again.
