In 2020, Microsoft unveiled its first-ever dual-screen device in front of the world. The device, which was named Microsoft Surface Duo, got an official launch on 10 September 2020 was sold at 1,399 dollars in the US market. While the device got a fairly wide launch, it was largely targeted at business users or those who needed a device of this nature in their professional space. That is the reason why it had an enterprise-level security system and other data encryption and protection-based services.
A mobile device management solution, too, was provided with the device. With the help of the Surface Duo, users were also able to have access to a Windows 10 experience which was powered by the cloud and the Windows Virtual Desktop. All these attributes helped one identify the device as a compact PC that could be easily moved from one place to another.
Soon after its US launch, Microsoft started making the necessary preparation to launch it in other countries. Even though the reviews were mixed, the company seems to have been quite happy by the way it was received by the consumers. That must be the reason why it is now gearing up to launch its successor.
According to a recently published report, Microsoft is actively working towards the development of the Surface Duo 2 which will, as per the report, feature 5G connectivity support and better camera performance. At the moment, the device is being referred to as ‘Zeta’. While Microsoft has finalized most of the details pertaining to the product, it is still brainstorming on a few ideas to ensure that the device does come across as an upgraded version of its predecessor which arrived in the market last year.
As per the report, the camera of the Microsoft Duo 2 will utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning to offer some novelty with regards to the kind of experience a user has with the camera. Using this technology will also help in bringing out an improvement in the image processing methods.
Though introduced as recently as in 2020, the Microsoft Duo runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset which is quite old. As Microsoft is taking so many measures to present a better and improved device to the consumers, one expects the Surface Duo 2 to be powered by the latest chipset and boast of the most advanced and modern features.
While one waits for the Surface Duo 2, there are also rumors about Microsoft working on the second-generation Surface Duo. One must remember that the company is still in the process of distributing the current model in certain countries. Taking the fact into consideration, one should not hope for the second-generation device to arrive in 2021.
