Pokémon GO Won't Load? Common Pokémon GO Problems & Fixes

Everyone is talking about Pokémon GO – a game played by millions of people worldwide. The game's popularity is constantly increasing, and the players are eager to find and catch Pokémon and, of course, level up. While many of those playing this addictive game have had a smooth experience, some people seem to be having issues.

Note:

  • To play Pokémon GO on Android, you need Android KitKat 4.4 or later, display resolution 1280×720 or higher, and 2 GB RAM or more.
  • To play Pokémon GO on iPhone, you need an iPhone 5 or one of the newer models and iOS 8 or later.

Pokémon GO Common Problems and how to fix them

1. Pokémon GO keeps crashing.

Many players reported crashing problems with the game, stating that the app is very laggy. If you are experiencing the same issue, you need to ensure that you have the latest version of Pokémon GO.

Navigate to the App Store and Find the Pokémon GO on the list of apps you have installed, and if you see "Update" right next to the app's name, tap on it and get the latest version.

The latest version of the app comes with improvements; thus, the crashes and slow performance should be gone once you update the app.

Tip for Android users: clear the Pokémon GO cache.

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on Apps (App Manager, Manage apps, depending on the Android device)
  • Find the Pokémon Go app and tap on it
  • Tap Storage
  • Next, Tap Clear Cache and Clear Data
  • Go back to the Home screen and relaunch the app

2. Pokémon Go Won't Load

The game may become unresponsive, and it may happen at the moment when you are trying to catch a Pokémon.

Close the Pokémon GO App, toggle the Airplane mode off, then on.

3. What do I do if Pokémon GO won't open?

Before you try other solutions, make sure the servers are working. You can see the current server status on the Pokémon GO Server Status web page or do a google search "Pokémon GO Down" sites like the DownDectector are great to use.

If you can open the app but see a spinning Pokéball, your smartphone is trying to connect to the server. The spinning ball usually vanishes in a couple of seconds, but if it stays, it means the servers are down at the moment.

Other workarounds:

  • Update the app
  • Restart your smartphone
  • Remove the app from your device and install it again. Data from the game is stored on the cloud, meaning once you sign into the game, you will be able to start where you left off.

4. Pokémon GO "GPS signal not found."

GPS should be enabled because it shows the app your movement and tells your current location. You may see a "GPS signal not found" error right after launching the game, but the error usually disappears after a couple of seconds.

On Android, go to Settings > Location, and make sure "Location" is turned on.

Also, tap "Location mode" and select the "High accuracy" option.

For iPhone, navigate Settings > Privacy > Location Services and ensure the "Location services" option is enabled.

Turn on the Pokémon GO App location: navigate settings > Pokémon GO > Turn on location.

Turn the WiFi on even if there are no networks around. If you are playing the game indoors and see "GPS signal not found," go outdoors just for a couple of minutes.

5. You updated the app and you are at level 1 again.

Some people who had recently updated Pokémon GO noticed they are at level 1 again. If you face the same issue, log out of the app. Tap on the Poké Ball to access the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Sign Out. Sign back in.

6. Pokémon GO is draining my battery

Pokémon GO is a pretty demanding game. Location Services and GPS must be enabled and working, the screen must be on at all times and the camera must be in use.

So, it is not surprising to see so many people complaining about how Pokémon GO is draining their phone's battery. Here are a couple of things to do:

  • Open Pokémon GO and tap on Poké Ball to access the Settings. Tap Battery Saver.
  • If you have any apps currently running in the background and you don't need them at the moment, close them.
  • Turn off music, sound, and other effects. Also, turn the Vibration off.
  • Turn Off Background Processes, Auto Updates and Reduce Motion
  • Turn On Power Saving Mode

7. Pokémon GO trainer isn't moving.

If the trainer is not moving, first try to access the menu by tapping on the Poké Ball, if the menu can't open, that means the app has crashed. You will have to restart the game.

8. Pokémon eggs won't hatch.

If your egg doesn't hatch, you need to ensure that you walk a certain distance (make sure the app is open while you are walking). You may see 3/3km, but once you click on the egg, you may notice 2.99/3km. Walk a bit more, and the egg should hatch.

9. You don't see Pokémon around.

If you can't find Pokémon around, it may be because the app may have crashed in the background – if that's the case, you won't see any Pokémon or Pokéstops. Once you restart the app, it should show Pokémon and Pokéstops again.

The other reason why you don't see Pokémon around is because you are currently in a quiet area. You will find Pokémon when you move to the busy areas.

To attract more Pokémon, you can use Incense and Lure Module. Incense and Lure Modules can be purchased in the shop, but you can also get them as you level up.

Incense lasts for half an hour. The Lure Module will attract Pokémon to Pokéstops.

Make sure you have the latest version of the app.

10. Pokémon GO items you've purchased do not appear

As you are playing the game, you will earn coins that you can use to buy various items. If you don't see the items you've purchased, log out of the game (tap on Poke Ball at the bottom to access the menu, and tap Sign out) and log back in.

This should solve the problem. Otherwise, restart your device.
